The life of St Dominic (1170-1221)

St Dominic was born in Spain in 1170, about 100 miles north of Madrid, is an outstanding figure of faith and now chosen as the Patronal Saint of the new Parish.

St Dominic based his lifestyle on simplicity - prayer, study of Scripture and preaching the word. The Community he established is known as the Order of Preachers and today provides a wide ranging apostolate.

Physically exhausted and having developed a fever, Dominic died on August 6th 1221, just 51 years old.

Our prayer today is that we will continue to be influenced by our patronal saint in seeking a deeper understanding of Scripture, dedication to a life of prayer and a special devotion to Mary the Mother of God.
