The growth in population reflected in the increased attendance in St Matthew’s (the Mother in the centre of Bishopbriggs) raised the need for another parish in the community. Initial discussions as early as 1966 to the opening of a Mass centre in St Helen’s Primary School. From early March 1971, a priest from St Matthew’s celebrated the Holy Mass every Sunday and on Holy days of obligation.

On December 4th 1973, Rev Father Michael O’Keeffe was appointed Parish Priest of the newly inaugurated St Dominic’s Parish. On December 16th 1973, he celebrated the First Mass for the Parish Community in St Helen’s Primary School. Construction work started on the Church building in 1975 and on July 10th 1977, Father O’Keeffe celebrated the First Mass in the completed Church building. On September 11th 1977, the Church was officially opened by the then Most Reverend Thomas Joseph Winning, Archbishop of Glasgow Archdiocese.

Above the Tabernacle is an attractive stained-glass window depicting the Annunciation (acquired from the Church of Notre Dame, Dowanhill). Stained glass windows also feature on both sides of the church depicting Saints Columba, Kentigern, Andrew and Patrick.

Work commenced on the construction of the long awaited Parish Hall, adjacent to the church, in 1995 and it was officially opened by Cardinal Joseph Thomas Winning on June 11th 1996.

In 1998, the Parish Community of St Dominic- united in Faith – celebrated the Silver Jubilee of the Parish. Four years later, on Thursday September 19th 2002, the Silver Jubilee of St Dominic’s Church was celebrated by the Most Reverend Mario Joseph Conti, Archbishop of Glasgow.

The hall was renamed Father O’Keeffe’s Hall in memory of Rev Fr Michael O’Keeffe, the first parish priest of St Dominic’s Parish on March 7th 2025, by the Most Reverend William Nolan, Archbishop of Glasgow Archdiocese.
